1. In the lecture, Ms. Seelig mentions “luck” as a chance made by your behavior. Some people, however, believe that luck isn’t something you can make, it is just a random happening. Therefore, it happens without any conditions to meet and of course, there is no way to increase one’s luck. They say “luck” is something like, you have just missed your flight but that plane ends up crash-landing and ultimately, missing the plane saves your life. What is luck? Do you agree with Ms. Seelig or are you with others who think luck is just a random event?
2. In the lecture, one way to increase our luck is to take small risks that get us out of our comfort zone such as talking to a stranger and asking people if they need help. My question is, have you ever had a situation you took a small risk without knowing it would lead you to luck and ultimately, that risky behavior made you gain good luck (or a good consequence)?
3. Another way to increase our luck is to appreciate people who have helped us to success (The help can be both material support and emotional support) or who have contributed to leading us to have significant experiences. Do you have those kinds of people around you? How did you appreciate them? Even if you didn’t mean to get any benefit from appreciating them, was there anything you gained from that behavior? Such as, your relationship with the people got stronger or they got willing to help you again etc. Please tell me about your experience. |

Topic ① Is non-violent movement always fairer than violent movement? If you agree with it, Is “Violence showed during resistance to irrational political authority’ unreasonable” (Wasn’t violence unavoidable and essential in the process of the American Revolution or Korean independence movement?) If you disagree, What do you think about the following statement? “Although violence has the short term effect, in the long term, violence begets violence and it causes a vicious circle”
② Are hunger strike and burning oneself part of non-violent protest?
③ There are 3 perspectives about the relationship between political resistance and violence 1) Violence can never be admitted in any situations and for any purposes. 2) It isn’t good to bring violence into political resistance because it brings bad outcome, not because violence is bad 3) No one knows if violence itself is bad. Therefore if they need violence, they should use it actively What perspective among the three do you agree with?
④ Let’s say civil disobedience has happened in order to abolish “Juvenile protection(소년범)”. Would you criticize them? |
